Meheru Alaspure

I am Meheru Alaspure, a passionate researcher and avid reader with a deep interest in scientific journalism and neuroscience, driven by the vision of facilitating interdisciplinary education. As Editor-in-Chief of Meraki Review, a vibrant teen-led literary magazine, I amplify the voices of young writers and artists and advocate for teenage mental health equity. With a commitment to impactful storytelling and community-driven initiatives, I aim to bridge the gap between science and literature while empowering the next generation of artists and changemakers.Meraki Review is an international literary magazine designed to erode the cages of “realistic thinking” and encourage young minds to unfurl the wings of their psyche, carving words from the depths of their being. Through Meraki, I want to transform the belief that “stories allow us to escape reality” into the mantra that “stories allow us to reshape reality.

My work has appeared or is forthcoming in publications such as Daphne Review, Stirling Review, Alcott Youth Magazine, Grey Coven Publishing, Incandescent Review, Scribere, and elsewhere. I have also been commended by John Locke University and received an honorable mention in the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest.

About me

From an early age, I wanted to know, to reverse engineer, to derive, to read. For me, science has always been more than facts and formulas; it’s a way to make sense of the unknown to better understand our reality, an abstraction (object-oriented programming) of sorts.
Over the years, this curiosity has driven me to explore the intersection of STEM and the humanities. As an aspiring astronomy journalist, I’ve learned how to distill complex ideas into accessible stories, translating the cold (usually without any context if you are new to science literature) facts into something more hopeful. Writing for publications has taught me that science, at its core, is about perspective on reality. Like for every thesis there is an antithesis. I believe that science becomes most impactful when it’s accessible, engaging, and relevant to the human experience.

To share this passion, I launched an Instagram account dedicated to translating cutting-edge astronomical research and space technology into engaging-stellar content. Through concise and exciting reels, I bridge the gap between intricate scientific concepts and teenagers who want to drown in space. I believe youth engagement in space science is an untapped opportunity, and I am committed to advocating for greater astronomical literacy among my friends. My mission is to inspire a new generation to marvel at the isotropy and elegance of our universe. From rover expeditions and extraterrestrial geochemistry to discoveries of dark matter, quasars, and singularities, my content explores the forefront of space science. I cover topics like solar system's moons, JWST and Euclid's photos and the primordial nucleosynthesis of our universe, making astrophysical breakthroughs both immersive and easy.

writing: essays and poetry

In "Venusian Atmosphere and its Transfixing Geochemistry and Astrobiological Potential," I dive into the acidic hothouse of solar system: a sulphur-adorned "morgensteorra"
Through scientific insights and poetic musings, this article bridges planetary science with the questions of extraterrestrial life. A must-read for those captivated by the interplay of geochemistry, astrobiology, and are maddened by the thirst to know more.
"“A goddess warped a crevice of inferno on herself, tears fleeing her sulfur-clouded cheeks.”"

What happens after we die? From ancient burial rituals to cutting-edge neuroscience, to humanity's search for answers to this haunting question. In "Is There Life After Death?" the veil between the mortal and the paranormal is lifted, revealing amalgamating history, philosophy, and science.Journey back 10,000 years to a Neanderthal grave, explore Plato's visions of the soul’s immortality and how modern neuroscience and psychodyanamics dissect near-death experiences. Tunnel visions, OBEs, the final light—are these glimpses of an afterlife or illusions of a flatlined brain
